Rideshare and delivery
Your app counts the fare. Your log counts every mile.
Rideshare and delivery platforms report pickup to drop-off. The driving in between, back toward downtown, waiting near a restaurant, moving to a busier area, is still business driving, and only your own log has it. Odie records each drive from the moment your car moves.
United States
72.5¢ then 76¢ a mile
Most drivers are self-employed and file Schedule C. At the standard mileage rate each business mile in 2026 is worth 72.5¢ (Jan 1 to Jun 30, 2026) or 76¢ (Jul 1 to Dec 31, 2026), plus business parking and tolls. The IRS wants the date, destination, purpose and miles of each business use (Publication 463).
Example: 25,000 business miles in 2026, half in each period, is an $18,562.50 deduction.

Car costs × business share
Most drivers are self-employed and file the T2125: the business share of fuel, insurance, maintenance, interest or lease, and capital cost allowance. The share is business kilometres over total kilometres, which a full-shift log gives you.
The CRA on motor vehicle expensesBuilt for a lot of short trips
- Starts with your car’s Bluetooth, not your phone moving, so walking into a restaurant does not start a trip.
- One tap per trip from the lock screen, or decide before you park from the trip in progress.
- Parking and tolls with the receipt photo, next to the trip.
- A year report with monthly totals and the odometer pair for your accountant.
Questions
Doesn’t Uber or DoorDash already give me my miles?
They report what they need: pickup to drop-off. The miles between jobs, driving back toward a busy area or waiting for the next ping, are not in their summary. A log that runs the whole time you drive catches those too. The rideshare and delivery post works through a full shift.
Will I hit the 40 free automatic trips?
Probably within a few shifts, since every leg between stops is its own trip. The free tier is there to check that detection works with your car. Odie Pro records without limit: $3.33 CAD a month billed yearly in Canada, $2.50 USD a month billed yearly in the United States.
Do I need a log if my earnings are small?
In the United States the IRS asks for a return once net self-employment earnings reach $400, even from a side job, and all income is reportable whether or not a 1099-K arrives. The vehicle deduction is what brings the net down, and it needs the log.
