A logbook that does not need you

Odie is an independent mileage log for iPhone, made in Montréal. It is built and supported by one person, Taylor Brown.

Why it exists

Odie started with a notes file. Driving to client sites around Montréal, the mileage log was filled in from memory at the end of the month. The accountant was polite about it. The tax people would not have been.

The apps I tried wanted an account and permission to track me all the time, and they still logged the metro and split a drive every time I stopped for gas. I did not want a dashboard. I wanted the trip to be there when I got out of the car, a way to say Work or Personal with one tap, and a PDF in March.

So Odie watches for your car’s Bluetooth, records the trip on the phone, and asks one question when it ends. It has no server because it does not need one. It is in English and French because Québec is home.

What that means in the app

  • No account to create. Your trips live on your iPhone, and optional sync goes through your own private iCloud database, which we cannot read. Privacy by design has the details.
  • No analytics, no ads and no third-party code, in the app or on this site.
  • The CRA and IRS rules built in, for Canada and the United States, with each rate dated and sourced.
  • English and French, including the year report.
  • iPhone only, iOS 17 or later.

Who answers

Questions and bug reports go to support@odielog.com and are answered by Taylor. The articles on this site are checked against the official pages they cite; how we check our facts explains how. For press, see the press kit.
